Mrs. VIRGINIA RUTH BLOUNT FENTON McCONNELL

FORT WORTH -- Virginia Ruth "Ginny" Blount Fenton McConnell passed away peacefully Friday morning, July 25, 2014. Mrs. McConnell was 97 years young. Service: A service celebrating her life will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, in the chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper. Prior to the service, family and friends will be greeted from 3 to 4 p.m. Memorials: Consideration of contributions to the Elizabeth Crockett Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship Fund, Box 2221, Granbury, Texas 76048, in her memory, is suggested. Born March 9, 1917, in Youngstown, Ohio, Ginny lived in Washington, D.C., in the early 1940s, working in the war effort during World War II. In 1945, she moved to Oklahoma City and to Midland in 1951 as her husband, John, was in the oil business. Additional moves were to Dallas in 1966 and retiring to DeCordova Bend Estates in 1978. She spent the last 8 years in Fort Worth to be near her daughter, Kathy. Ginny was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for 65 years and a charter member of the Elizabeth Crockett Chapter in Granbury. She was an active member of the Mayflower Society and the Texas Society Colonial Dames XVII Century. Her memberships also included the Acton United Methodist Church. She loved to participate in the many social activities at DeCordova, where she lived in retirement with her husband, Jim McConnell. An avid tennis player well into her 80s, Ginny enjoyed playing bridge into her 90s. She loved more than anything to dance and was the oldest active member of the Granbury Rockettes who performed often around the Granbury area. She attributed her active lifestyle for her life's longevity. Her family want to thank the caregivers at Broadway Plaza at Westover Hills, Holly Root from Community Hospice of Texas and the wonderful Primrose Senior Caregivers, especially Sanja, Brandi and Jelena, for their time, love and patience in caring for Ginny. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, John H. Fenton, and Jim McConnell, her husband of 12 years. Survivors: In addition to her daughters and their husbands, Susan and Wayne Axtell of Canyon Lake, Mary Fenton and Stephen O'Dell of Fort Davis and Kathy and Craig Keesee of Fort Worth, Ginny is survived by her grandsons, Michael Trainer and his wife, Corrine, of Spring Branch and Neil Keesee of Yipsilanti, Mich.; stepgrandsons, Donald Axtell and his wife, Karri, of Manvel and Kenneth Axtell and his wife, Tracy, of Rayne, La.; great-grandchildren, Brooke and Keaton Trainer; and nieces and nephews, Roberta and Ronnie Rone of Pecan Plantation, Steven and Carrie Swartzbaugh of Flower Mound and Jeffery and Gerri Swartzbaugh of The Villages, Fla.
