SOUTHLAKE -- Virgil Ray Anderson, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and soldier, died peacefully Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 28, 2014. He was 76 years old. Service: Military Honors will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: He will lie in state Tuesday at Lucas Funeral Home-Keller, 137 E. Hill St., where family and friends will be received 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, in his memory, is suggested. Born in Pleasant Hill, La., on Sept. 12, 1937, Virgil was the son of Willie Allen and Alabama Ruth Anderson. He graduated from Ajax High School in 1956 and went on to serve his country in the United States Army Security Agency. Virgil spent 34 years working in Arizona for Phelps Dodge Corporation and retired in 1998 as the mine fabrication repair supervisor. He was married to his lifelong love, Shirley Anderson, for almost 50 years, before her passing in 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, Roy Anderson. Survivors: In addition to his daughter, Terri Anderson, Virgil is survived by his son, Richard Anderson and his wife, Melody, and their daughters, Riley and Callie; sister, Willie Ruth Wagley; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and their families.
