SONIA HECHT

FORT WORTH -- Sonia Maree Thimmig Hecht, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully Monday afternoon, Sept. 10, 2012, shortly before her 78th birthday. Service: 11 a.m. Thursday in the Barnett Sanctuary of Congregation Ahavath Sholom, 4050 S. Hulen St., with Rabbi Andrew Bloom and Cantor Shoshana Abrams officiating. Following committal prayers, she will be laid to rest in Ahavath Sholom Cemetery. Shiva will be held Thursday at the Hecht residence, with minyan service beginning at 6 p.m. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to Congregation Ahavath Sholom or a charity of one's choice, in her memory, is suggested. A native of St. Louis, Mo., Sonia was born Oct. 1, 1934. She married Gerald Hecht on Aug. 30, 1953, and recently celebrated their anniversary. After moving the family to Fort Worth in 1965, they became members of Congregation Ahavath Sholom. Sonia was a member of the Chevra Kadisha, the congregation's burial committee; she served on the Jewish Family Service board and was a member of B'nai B'rith. Survivors: In addition to her husband of 59 years, Sonia is survived by her sons, Mark Hecht and his wife, Nicole, David Hecht and Alan Hecht; and grandchildren, Travis, Brian, Jonah, Colette and Alex.
