Shirley Belle claimed the promise of her baptism on October 26th, at the age of 90.
Shirely was born December 11, 1933, in Fort Worth. Her parents were Oda Coffman and Mildred Scarlott Coffman. She had an older brother Elbert Joseph (Joe) Coffman. She was married to David Ritner Alter for 70 years.
Shirley was a lifelong resident of Fort Worth, she graduated from Paschal High School and continued close friendships with her Paschal classmates, still having lunch every month, even as their numbers grew smaller over the years.
Shirley attended the University of Texas Austin and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta social sorority. Unlike other women in the early 1950s, Shirely graduated from the School of Business, with a Bachelor of Business. She used her degree to work, along with her father Oda, until his death, and her brother Joe. Together they ran Terrell Supply Company, a hospital supply business started by Dr. T.C. Terrell and Oda Coffman. Shirley worked full time in the hospital supply business until she was 70 years old.
Shirley’s passions were her family, her friends, entertaining, lunching at Carshon’s Deli and bridge.
Shirley is survived by her husband David, daughter Allison and her fiancé Steve Dean, grandson Kyle David, nephews Bob Coffman and wife Mary Carol, Larry Coffman, and Michael Coffman, niece Anne Wessel and husband Bob Barnard and nephew Norman Wessel.
Shirley was preceded in death by her brother Joe and sister-in-law Mary Sue.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12 pm Wednesday, October 29, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3621 Tulsa Way, with a reception to follow in the church's Fellowship Hall. She will be laid to rest privately in Greenwood Memorial Park.
