FORT WORTH -- Seyman Philip Rubinson died peacefully at his daughter's home Friday afternoon, July 18, 2014. Mr. Rubinson was 88 years old. Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Beth-El Congregation, 4900 Briarhaven Road, with Rabbi Jordan Ottenstein officiating and Rabbi Sidney Zimelman, eulogist. Military honors will be given by the Martin Hochster Jewish War Veterans Post 755. Following committal prayers, he will be laid to rest in the Beth-El Section at Greenwood Memorial Park. Memorials: His family respectfully requests no flowers. Consideration of contributions to Beth-El Congregation, Community Hospice of Texas, Meals on Wheels or a charity of choice, in his memory, is suggested. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, on Feb. 20, 1924, Seyman grew up in Perry. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps to serve his country during World War II. Following his tour of duty, he returned home to join the family metal recycling business. At his mother's insistence, he attended the University of Texas at Austin where he met and married Shirley Antweil. In 1947, they moved to Fort Worth where Seyman continued an earlier career in the metals industry, making many lifelong friends. Seyman was a member of Beth-El Congregation and the Martin Hochster Jewish War Veterans Post 755, which he served as post commander. He was an avid sports fan, whether it be playing in high school, coaching his children or watching his grandchildren or great-grandson. He was passionate about sports, but his greatest love was his large family and close circle of friends. Lucky to have loved and been loved by two wonderful women, Seyman was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, who died in 1987. After attending a 50-year high school reunion, he reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Marion Getting, whom he married in 1990. They were blessed with 20 years together before her death in 2009. His family wishes to express a special thank-you to Charlotte Oswald and Community Hospice of Texas for their compassionate care. Survivors: In addition to his children, Irving and Patti Rubinson, Martin Rubinson and Denae Chance, David and Deborah Rubinson, and Ellen Rubinson, Seyman is survived by his grandchildren, Adam and Tori Rubinson, Grand Rubinson and Sarah Mounthjoy, Alison Rubinson and fiance', Andray Downs, Andrew and Whitley Rubinson and Corbin Rubinson; great-grandchildren, Samantha and Benjamin; and Marian's six loving children and their families.
