FORT WORTH -- In the words of Frank Sinatra, “And now, the end is near, And so I face the final curtain, My friend, I'll say it clear, I'll state my case, of which I'm certain, I've lived a life that's full, I traveled each and every highway, And more, much more than this, I DID IT MY WAY.” Roy died surrounded by immediate family at the Double R Ranch Wednesday, August 23, 2017. Make no mistake; he lived every day of his 76 years to the fullest until the very end. Service: He will be laid to rest privately in Greenwood Memorial Park. Memorials: A true patriot, Roy asked that memorials to be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Liberty House of Fort Worth, a safe haven for homeless veterans. 1513 E. El Paso St, Fort Worth, Texas, 76102. Born February 21, 1941 in Fort Worth, Roy Thomas Rimmer, Jr. was larger than life. His love of family, friends, fine clothes, fast cars, aircraft, motorcycles and the next business deal made Roy’s story unforgettable. The son of Gwendolyn Edmondson and Roy Thomas Rimmer Sr., Roy was nicknamed “Butch” at an early age. Only those friends brave enough to weather his steely gaze and wicked laugh dared call him by this childhood moniker. Roy’s shenanigans were legendary; he was the master of pranks and those on the receiving end never attempted to even the score; they knew what awaited should they try! Roy graduated from R. L. Paschal High School in 1959, and attended Texas Christian University before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. It was at Paschal where he met his wife, Nancy Newton. True to their adventurous spirit, Roy and Nancy eloped on June 15, 1961 while Roy was on leave from the Marine Corps. They were married in Enid, Oklahoma with only their 2 best friends in attendance, one of whom gave them $50; it was all they had when they left for the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort, South Carolina. The quintessential businessman, Roy’s entrepreneurial spirit started young. At the age of 11, he began driving lumber trucks for his father. He’s been a stockbroker, oilman and “El Jefe” of various corporations. Roy was a Lifetime Director of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, a member of Rancheros Vistadores in Santa Barbara, and Tejas Vaqueros, his beloved riding club based outside of Kerrville Texas. It was during his time spent on the Vaquero ride that Roy met some of his closest friends. While Roy was a “lone cowboy” in some respects, he was also a devoted husband and father. Nancy and Roy shared many adventures over their life together. They loved boating and reminiscing about time spent water skiing with friends. When they weren’t on the lake, they were snow skiing in Snowmass, vacationing in Mexico or the Caribbean, or hosting one of their legendary parties at the Double R Ranch. In addition to his loving wife of 56 years, Nancy, Roy left behind his 2 daughters, Renee’ and Cynthia. “His girls” were a source of pride for him. He taught them how to be business owners, board members, philanthropists, pilots, snow and water skiers, equestrians, and most importantly, ladies. Roy taught his girls how to be confident, resilient and loyal. And he taught them how to have fun. He is also survived by his sons-in-law, VerNeil Mescher and Scott Prince; his grandson, Ryan Prince; nephews and many lifelong friends he thought of as family.
