FORT WORTH -- Roy O. "Jack" Hagood Jr. passed away peacefully at home early Friday morning, May 23, 2014, with his family at his side. Mr. Hagood was 89 years old. Memorial service: Noon Wednesday in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at University Christian Church with family and friends gathering in the church's library immediately following the service. The Rev. Larry Thomas will officiate. He will be laid to rest privately Wednesday morning next to his wife, Marian, in Dido Cemetery. Mr. Hagood will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Drawing Room at Robertson Mueller Harper. Honorary bearers: His golf and gin buddies at Colonial Country Club and members of the International Wine & Food Society of Fort Worth. University Drive, Fort Worth, Texas 76109, in his memory, is suggested. Born in Fort Worth on June 3, 1924, Jack was the son of Roy Orveal "Slim" and Sarah Jane Williams Hagood. Other than five years spent in Florida during his early childhood, Jack returned to Fort Worth to be a life resident. He graduated from R.L. Paschal High School before spending three years as a medical corpsman in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Although he attended Texas Christian University, he received a bachelor's degree in dairy manufacturing from Texas A&M in 1950. Jack met the first love of his live and mother of their four children, Marian Emily Shepherd, in French class at TCU. They married Sept. 3, 1949, and remained married until her death in 1972. He met Royene Mansel Sachse, the second love of his life through mutual friends; they married June 24, 1986. Royene died in 2009. He felt blessed to have been loved by two wonderful women. At age 13, Jack started working with his father in the Fort Worth Stockyards. He held numerous jobs until he found his life's vocation as a stockbroker, specializing in commodities and securities. He started his brokerage career with Ulhman & Company and retired at age 77 from UBS. He served as president of The Sales & Marketing Executives and the Fort Worth Security Dealers' Association. Jack enjoyed years of hunting, playing golf and gin rummy at Colonial Country Club and having a beer with good friends at Angelo's BBQ. He served in several capacities at Colonial during the National Invitation tournament, including being chairman of the marshals' committee. He was known for his love of fine wine and was a member of the International Wine & Food Society of Fort Worth for over 25 years and served as treasurer of the society. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives; and sister, Betty Jane Hagood Carey. Survivors: In addition to his children, Mark Hagood, Margaret and David Teague, Scott and Debbie Hagood, and Kent and Katherine Hagood, Jack is survived by his grandchildren, Brad Bergsma, Jon Hagood, Amy Stapp, Sara Hagood, Rachel Magee, Kristin Rapinchek, Ben Hagood, Erin Hagood, Lauren Hagood, David Hagood and Sarah Hagood; 19 great-grandchildren; nephews, Dan Carey, Tom Carey, Chris Gauntt and Kelly Gauntt, and niece, Holly Gauntt, and their families.
