GRANBURY -- Robert "Bob" Flood Penny, our precious father, devoted husband and decorated war veteran, who was such a truly rich blessing to every family member and so very many friends, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, Nov. 15, 2014. Mr. Penny was 90 years old. Service: A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper. His cremated remains will be inurned with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., in a joint ceremony with those of his wife, Shirley, who preceded him in death. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to the Wounded Warriors Project, Box 758517, Topeka, Kan. 66675, in his memory, is suggested. Born June 18, 1924, in Kentucky, Bob was the son of Clarence Leon Penny and Lucille I. Flood Penny. He married Shirley Jean Moschell on Feb. 10, 1946; they lived most of their lives in Dallas. Bob graduated from the University of Illinois and had a successful career in pharmaceutical sales and management. Commissioned as an aviation cadet in 1942, he served as a B-17 navigator from 1944 to 1945, flying 27 combat missions with the 96th Bomber Group, 8th Army Air Corps, in the European theater. Bob navigated the lead B-17 Flying Fortress for Operation Manna, which dropped food in the severe winter of 1944 to the starving Dutch citizens. He was awarded numerous medals, including the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war, he returned home to initiate a successful career, marry and raise seven children. Strong and positive to the end, Bob was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Granbury. He will be remembered for his Christian beliefs, generous nature, sharp mind, caring and positive attitude, and especially for his devoted love to his wife and family. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at the Waterview Independent Living Community in Granbury and also for the exceptional staff at Broadway Plaza at Cityview, Fort Worth, for the loving support and exceptional care during his last year. Dad, you touched and richly blessed so very many lives -- you will be dearly missed.
