FORT WORTH -- Robert Tollen Martin died Monday morning, Feb. 3, 2014, and is now enjoying eternal life with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. At the time of passing, he was within 10 days of his 65th wedding anniversary. Service: A celebration of Bob's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Christ Chapel Bible Church, 3701 Birchman Ave., with his family receiving friends at the church immediately after the memorial service. He will be laid to rest privately in Greenwood Memorial Park. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to Bread Basket Ministries, P.O. Box 244, Fort Worth, Texas 76101, or the Dallas Theological Seminary, P.O. Box 612626, Dallas, Texas 75261-2626, in Bob's memory, is suggested. Bob was born Sept. 8, 1925, in Fresno, Calif., where he lived with his parents, Byrd and Robert O. Martin, and his brother, Bruce, until June 19, 1943. He joined the U.S. Navy and was sent to the University of Texas in Austin where he attended the V12 Navy College Training Program. He received his commission in October 1945 and served aboard the LSD-13 Casa Grande until he was released from active duty. In 1946, Bob returned to the University of Texas in Austin where he graduated with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. While attending UT Austin, he found the love of his life, Marilyn McDavid of Henderson. They were married in February 1949 and lived in a numerous cities across the U.S., before moving to Fort Worth in 1965. He worked from 1965 to 1983 for Texas Electric Service Company. In 1971, he was named vice president; his responsibilities included public relations, public employees' communications, and consumer affairs of personnel relations. Bob was a member of Christ Chapel Bible Church, the Streams and Valleys Committee and a life member of Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce. He served as chairman of the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and the Longhorn Council, Boy Scouts of America, and was on the boards of Junior Achievement, Fort Worth Community Development Council, Texas Real Estate Commission, and the D/FW Airport board. He was a registered professional engineer, a life member of the Texas National Society of Professional Engineers and a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Bob was also active in several Christian groups, including Dallas Theological Seminary and Bible Study Fellowship. Survivors: In addition to his wife of 64 years, Marilyn, Bob is survived by his son, David B. Martin; daughter and her husband, Ann and Christophe Gontier; and grandsons, Alex and Austin Gontier.
