FORT WORTH -- On the evening of Friday, June 27, 2014, Robert James Wiley rode off into the sunset like a true Texas gentleman, leaving this world on his own terms after a difficult battle with cancer. Memorial service: The family warmly invites you to come celebrate Rob's life at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper. A reception will immediately follow locally to allow family and close friends to continue honoring the memory of this amazing man. There will never be another person like him. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests friends to choose a symbolic way to honor Rob, i.e. raising a glass of good bourbon or scotch, dancing in your favorite Texas honky-tonk, supporting the NRA, voting Republican, watching a John Wayne movie, playing a George Strait song, or whatever fondly reminds you of his characteristic smirk and charming wit. Rob was born in San Antonio on Aug. 5, 1948, the son of Edith Marie and James Harper Wiley. Because he loved the outdoors, his youth revolved around hunting, fishing, and playing golf and baseball. While studying biology and chemistry at Texas A&I University, Robbie spent his free time riding bulls in small-town Texas rodeos and two-stepping with pretty girls. His long career in the food and beverage industry included running processing plants and later designing and selling the systems that run them. He was a force of nature at Crouch Supply Company for over 30 years. Rob shared his love of golf with his son, coaching Jimmy and other local boys throughout their childhood, and playing a round himself whenever possible. He was a longtime member of Glen Garden Country Club and a fixture at the Colonial PGA Golf Tournament as the 34-year marshal of the Number 3 green. Rob also continued his love of rodeo by hosting friends and family at the Fort Worth Livestock Show and Rodeo every year. He loved to tell stories, and though every tale was based in truth, they were much more colorful and entertaining for the details he added. A consummate flirt and charmer, Rob was sweet-talking nurses in the hospital up until the day he died. He was always early to meet friends and customers, had a working "To Do" list in his pocket at all times, and liked order in his life. He was easy to talk to and would literally walk through fire to help his friends. Rob was a beloved father and grandfather, a devoted friend, a town character, and a barstool prophet. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Patricia. Survivors: In addition to two daughters, Jennifer Chapman and Melissa Hunter and son, James Robert Wiley, Rob is survived by five beautiful granddaughters; a grandson, who was the apple of his eye; and an amazing collection of friends too numerous to list but certainly not forgotten.
