FORT WORTH -- Otto John Buis, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died early Tuesday afternoon, June 10, 2014, following a long illness. Mr. Buis was 83 years old. Memorial service: 1 p.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 6146 Pershing Ave. He will be laid to rest privately in Laurel Land Memorial Park. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to Holy Family Catholic Church, in his memory, is suggested. Born June 9, 1931, in St. Jo, Mo., Otto was the son of Cecil and Helen Buis. Shortly thereafter his family moved to Lake Charles, La., where he completed his elementary and secondary education at Landry Memorial Catholic School. Otto earned a B.S. in geology from Southwestern Louisiana University and an M.S. degree in geology from Louisiana State University. He was an officer in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1956. Otto spent his entire career in the oil industry, working for companies such as Texaco, Shell and Shenandoah Oil Corp. He felt blessed that his work allowed him to travel and live in many parts of the world. In 1952, Otto married Lou Whittington; Mrs. Buis died in 1984. He married Lavonne Clinton in 1994. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Lavonne, Otto is survived by his children, Julie and David Colbeck, Al and Myra Buis, Chris and Vandee Buis, Mark and Jana Buis, Susan and Joe Magana, and Sara and Bill Wilson; grandchildren, Natalie, Olivia, David, Berkley, Megan, Andrew, Clint and Patrick; and sister, Cecilia Sampere.
