FORT WORTH -- Elaine Henderson Michero passed away peacefully Sunday morning, March 17, 2013, during her 87th year. Visitation: Following a private committal service the family will greet friends 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Westview Room at Colonial Country Club, 3735 Country Club Circle. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to Cancer Care Services of Fort Worth, 623 S. Henderson St., Fort Worth, Texas 76104, or to one's charity of choice, in her memory, is suggested. Elaine was born Aug. 30, 1925, to Jessie Martin and Houston Sherman Henderson in Doniphan, Mo. After graduating from Byrd High School in Shreveport, La., Elaine earned a B.S. degree in 1945 from Texas Christian University where she was one of the first cheerleaders in the nation to introduce gymnastics to the art of cheerleading. While at TCU she met William H. "Bill" Michero; they married in 1948. Elaine and Bill remained faithful and generous supporters of TCU and many Fort Worth institutions throughout their lives together. Elaine, a 36-year breast cancer survivor, was a patient mother of three who was fond of dance and always kept her passport current. Her love of travel by land and sea took her to wonderful and exotic locales around the world. She was a lifelong student of dance and tap and stopped only recently when she tired of hearing the "new" music they played in class. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bill Michero, and is now free again to do cartwheels and handsprings, as she cheers for us all who remember her so fondly. Survivors: In addition to her daughter, Janie Michero Christie and her husband, Steve, Elaine is survived by her sons, Bill Michero and his wife, Jenny, and Tom Michero and his wife, Silky; grandchildren, Katie Christie Nethery and Stephen, Angie Christie Bulaich and Nick, Jeff Michero and Emily and Chris Michero and Steven DePuy; great-grandchildren, Elaine and Emily Nethery and Charlie and Lily Bulaich; sisters, Jacqueline "Jac" Henderson Miles and Barbara Henderson Sipp; and nieces and nephews and their families.
