FORT WORTH -- Morris Schuler Nelson passed away peacefully Friday evening, Dec. 13, 2013, shortly before his 79th birthday. Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with interment to follow in Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: Family and friends will gather from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Great Room at Robertson Mueller Harper. Memorials: Consideration of contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church designated for the John Tietjen Speaker Series Fund or the Music Fund, 3621 Tulsa Way, Fort Worth, TX 76107, in his memory, is suggested. Morris Schuler Nelson was born December 16, 1934 in Waco the son of Morris Mitchell and Aliene Schuler Nelson. In 1957 he graduated from Texas Western College with a B.S. degree in Mining Engineering; he was president of SAE fraternity and a member of the student council. While in college, Schuler served as a Cadet Lt. Col. of the Corp graduating as a distinguished military graduate. He served six months active duty and eight years in the reserves. After completing college and serving our country, Schuler began his career in construction with Austin Road Company, a major Texas highway contractor in Fort Worth, now known as Austin Bridge & Road. He was President of Austin Road Company and retired after 34 years. He was a board member of the Texas Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America, was board member and president of the Texas Hot Mix Paving Association and served as Co-Chairman for the Mayor, City of Fort Worth's Select Committee on Transportation. Schuler was a 50 year member of Trinity Lutheran Church serving in many capacities. He was president of the congregation, and served as a board member of Trinity Lutheran Children's Center and as chairman of the endowment committee. He loved his church family and made it a priority in his life. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and loved nature and animals. After retiring, he and his wife, Linda began breeding and showing smooth fox terriers. He served as president of the Lone Star Fox Terrier Club and was a board member of the American Fox Terrier Club for many years. The family would like to thank Ark Home Health, BrightStar and Community Hospice for their care and especially Lucy for her many kindnesses and love shown to Schuler. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Linda Heath Nelson, Schuler is survived by his children, Jennifer Nelson Johnson and Eric, Mitchell Nelson and Lori, William Hester and Elizabeth, and Dylan Hester and Marissa; grandchildren, Eric Russell, Justin, Erica, Abigail and Jeffrey Johnson, Chelsea and Mackenzie Elkins, Tanner Hester and Adelina Hester; several cousins and many extended family members.
