FORT WORTH -- Mildred Barton Jann passed away peacefully Monday morning, Dec. 1, 2014. Mrs. Jann was 94 years old. Service: 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper with the Rev. Gaylan Henry and the Rev. David Pickard officiating. Visitation: Family and friends will be received 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Edward, in Athens City Cemetery. Born in Cayuga, Anderson County, on Feb. 23, 1920, Mildred was the daughter of John Wesley and Jim Fair Johnson Barton. She graduated from Cross Roads High School in 1939. While in Seattle, Wash., Mildred met Edward Walter Jann; the couple married Oct. 12, 1943. During World War II, she supported her country by working on an assembly line at Convair. Following the death of her husband in 1953, Mildred often worked three jobs at a time to raise their children. She retired from the Fort Worth ISD after more than 28 years of dedicated service as a cafeteria worker making pies at Glencrest Elementary and Forest Oak Middle School. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Warren Jann, in 2005; four sisters, Frances Sue Collins, Jo T. Hopkins, Maggie Lee Pitts and Johnnie Fair Barton; and her brother, Benton Barton. Survivors: In addition to her son, Edward Jann and his wife, Debra, of Burleson, Mrs. Jann is survived by her daughter, Thalis Jann of Bedford; grandchildren, Bryan Jann and his wife, Marsha, Kristy Shipp and her husband, Joe, and Amy Van Dyke; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Earl of Burleson;and many nieces and nephews and their families, who affectionately called her "Aunt Punkin."
