Fort Worth, Texas - Mildred "Billy" Friedman died peacefully at home on October 23, 2022 with her family beside her. She was 94. An amazingly talented and kind woman, she will be greatly missed.
Billy was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 28, 1927 to Sam and Jeane Goldberg. After the war, she married Paul Friedman, the son of a family friend, and they made a wonderful life together until his death in 2001. Her life's journey took her to Queens, Long Island, Massachusetts, and eventually to Texas. Always active, she grew up dancing and horseback riding, and as an adult she loved to golf and bowl. Billy was an expert at finishing jigsaw puzzles without looking at the box, and she loved teaching her grandchildren how to win at gin rummy. But her real passions in life were art and her beloved New York Mets! An accomplished painter, she specialized in pen and ink and needle painting and exhibited her work in galleries throughout Manhattan. A die-hard Mets fan, she would stay up until 2 am watching double headers. She never missed a game.
Billy was the wise and loving sage of her family which consisted of two children, 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren! She taught her family that you can always fix a mistake, that you learn more when you listen, and that a sense of humor gets you through anything. Always young at heart, her spirit will never leave us.
She is survived by her son, Gary Friedman and daughter, Gail Friedman; grandchildren, Alex Friedman, Rosie Friedman and Kris Goldizen, Carly and Stephen Tatum, Doug and Maria Mills, Brooke Mills and Charles Saadeh; and great-grandchildren, Sam and Colin Tatum, Harriet, Teddy, and Simon Mills, and Lina and Yara Saadeh.
