FORT WORTH -- Mary Walker Meadows Foose passed away peacefully Saturday morning, June 20, 2015. Mrs. Foose was 86. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Broadway Baptist Church, 305 W. Broadway Avenue. She will be laid to rest privately at Greenwood Memorial Park. Family and friends will gather in the church's Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Broadway Baptist Church, the Child Study Center or Northminster Baptist Church, Jackson, Miss. Mary Foose was born on October 24, 1928 in Fort Worth the daughter of Bert and Floy Collins Walker. She graduated from R. L. Paschal High School in 1945 before attending Randolph-Macon Woman's College, the University of Texas at Austin. She graduated in 1949 from Texas Christian University. While attending TCU, she met Henry Meadows. They married in 1950 and established their home in Fort Worth. Henry and Mary had two children, William Walker and Mary Anne. Like so many of her generation, Mary worked to improve and enrich Fort Worth, and her community service included numerous organizations. She was a long time member of the Jewel Charity Ball and Junior League, serving as president of the latter in 1963-64. She served as president of the Board of Directors of Child Study Center, president of the Woman's Wednesday Club, and president of Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club. She also served on the boards of the Fort Worth Lecture Foundation, Fort Worth Garden Club, Camp Fire Girls, and The Woman's Club of Fort Worth. Mary was the recipient of the United Way Hercules Award in 1979, honoring her volunteer leadership in the social welfare field. She also received the Texas Governor's Community Achievement Award for work she had done toward community improvement and beautification in Fort Worth. A life-long member of Broadway Baptist Church, Mary taught Bible Study there for 25 years to groups of adult women, considering this her most rewarding and joyous experience. Mary and Henry were enthusiastic travelers, going together on many pleasurable trips. They also enjoyed many years of spending time with friends and family at their ranch in Parker County. Following Henry's death, Mary met and married Kenneth C. Foose and moved to Jackson, Miss. where they lived together for over 30 years until Ken's death in September, 2014. While in Jackson, Mary served as Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Northminster Baptist Church. She was a member of the Mississippi Symphony Board of Directors, and president of the Gallery Guild of the Mississippi Museum of Art as well as an active participant in several luncheon clubs, Le Fleur Garden Club, Pleiades Study Club, and Playreaders. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and her sister, Anne Walker. Survivors: In addition to her son, Bill Meadows and his wife, Pati, and her daughter, Mary Anne Cook and her husband, Rob, Mary is survived by two step-daughters, Sara Dobbs and Mary Shannon and her husband, Jeff; three grandchildren, Walker Meadows and his wife, Mary, Hannah Watkins and her husband, Jarratt, and Ben Cook; great-grandson, John Walker Meadows; five step-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren.
