FORT WORTH -- Mary Ruth Swearingen Armstrong, loving wife, sister, aunt and respected nurse, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, April 11, 2015 Mrs. Armstrong was 94 years old. Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Cathedral, 1206 Throckmorton St. Following committal prayers, she will laid to rest next to her husband, George, in Laurel Land Memorial Park. Family and friends will gather 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Robertson Mueller Harper with a recitation of the holy rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Born Sept. 6, 1919, Mary Ruth was the daughter of James and Mary Margaret Hughes Swearingen. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's School of Nursing before serving as a nurse in the U.S. Army during World War II. She was stationed at Okinawa and Japan before returning to Fort Worth and joining the nursing staff at St. Joseph's Hospital. She retired from the hospital after 35 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, seven brothers and two sisters. Survivors: In addition to her nephew, Martin Swearingen, Mary Ruth is survived by her niece, Jan Swearingen; nephew, Philip Armstrong; two great-nieces; four great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
