MARGERY MEYERS McGREW

December 6, 1935 — October 18, 2024

Fort Worth

Fort Worth, Texas – Margery Meyers McGrew, genuinely loved by all who knew her, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus Christ on October 18th, surrounded by her four daughters.

Born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Marge was the second of five children whose family moved to Hinsdale, Illinois in 1950. She lived a life of faith, caring and kindness with a touch of clever humor to boot. Marge is survived by her loving husband, Nathan White McGrew, IV, with whom she shared 67 wonderful years.

Marge and Nate met at Kansas University, and following Nate’s service as a Naval Officer pilot, the family settled in Fort Worth where his aeronautical engineering career ensued, and their four daughters were raised. One of Marge’s greatest joys was being a mother. She delighted in leading and participating in all her children’s activities, from hosting Camp Fire Girls, to always having homemade cookies waiting after school and opening her house as home base to all neighborhood kids and friends. She made ordinary days so special. We’ll forever treasure the memories of delicious homemade meals, the clothes she sewed and knitted by hand, and Sunday night dinners at Joe T. Garcia’s while growing up.

Some of Marge’s many gifts and talents included gardening and showing her award-winning roses and creating stunning silk flowers that she made by hand. She excelled at both tennis and golf, and even made it to the U.S. Open tennis tournament with her daughter Maggie. Marge cherished her friends including her special decades-long bridge and dinner groups. She and Nate spent many wonderful summers at their home in Sun Valley, ID hiking, collecting Western art, and enjoying life with family and friends. The Sun Valley Symphony was a favorite she supported.

Marge was a volunteer in her church, and a patron of the Fort Worth Symphony, Van Cliburn Foundation, Jewel Charity, and Lena Pope, to name a few. She was very precious to her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Marge was preceded in death by her brothers, David R. Meyers of Sun Valley, ID and Frederick C. Meyers of Hinsdale, IL.

In addition to her husband, Marge is survived by her siblings, Melissa M. Gibbs Varga (Matei) of New York, NY and Michael L. Meyers (Judith) of San Francisco, CA; daughters, Gwendolyn Purvis (Lindy), Mary Lynn “Mimi” Karnes (Keith), Jennifer Kloss (Jim) of Boise, ID, and Margery “Maggie” Thorp (James) of Gulf Breeze, FL; grandchildren, Arlynn Elroy Purvis, Margery Elayne Purvis, Mary Alexandra White Dani, John Andrew Tamburro, Anne Marie Tamburro; and two great-grandchildren, River Wyatt Long and Lennon Louise Long.

Marge’s Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 pm Tuesday, December 3, at All Saints Church, 5001 Crestline Road.
