FALLS CHURCH, VA. -- Margaret Hailey White, a former longtime Fort Worth resident, died peacefully late Friday evening, Jan. 9, 2015, surrounded by loving members of her family. Margaret was 86 years old. Service: Margaret's life will be celebrated privately in Fort Worth at a later date. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association and Autism Speaks, in her memory, is suggested. Born in 1928, the daughter of Grace and Norman Hailey, Margaret and her brother, George, grew up in Fort Worth. She attended Monticello Women's College in Illinois and Texas Christian University. She met Dr. W.O. "Bill" White Jr., a dentist, in 1947 and they married seven months later. Together, they raised their three children in Fort Worth where Margaret was active in the community and enjoyed reading, gardening, calligraphy, bridge and golf. Margaret was well known for her handiwork with a needle. Knitting, embroidery, needlepoint and quilting were her specialties and she advised clients at The Door Knob and The Needlepoint Gallery. Her pieces, made from her own original designs, were often exhibited, including a needlepoint ornament that was hung on the White House Christmas tree in 1976. Although she moved to the Washington, D.C., area in 2006 to be with her daughters and grandchildren, Margaret always considered herself a Texan and a proud citizen of Fort Worth where she was a loyal friend to many. Survivors: In addition to her children, daughter, Linda Trippett and her husband, Frank, of McLean, Va., son, Richard White and his wife, Melissa, of Little Elm and daughter, Nancy Feldman and her husband, Ned, of Potomac Falls, Va., Margaret is survived by six grandchildren, Hailey Trippett, Rachel Trippett, Maggie Feldman, Cole Feldman, Devin White and Colin White.
