Mrs. LUCY RYAN MUSE

FORT WORTH -- Lucy Ryan Muse, a lifelong resident of Fort Worth, died peacefully Thursday evening, March 13, 2014. Mrs. Muse was 99 years old. Memorial service: 4 p.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 917 Lamar St., the Rev. Dr. R. William Dickson officiating. A reception will follow in the church's Moncrief Hall. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, the Child Study Center, 1300 W. Lancaster Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76102, or charity of choice, in her memory, is suggested. Lucy Muse was born Nov. 23, 1914, the daughter of Lucy Stripling Ryan and John C. Ryan Jr. She graduated from Central High School in Fort Worth before attending Smith College in Northampton, Mass. Mrs. Muse was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church all her life, being a charter member of St. Monica's Guild. She was instrumental in the founding of the Child Study Center, serving on the original board as building chair, and as board member for many years. She was a past president of both the Assembly and the Junior League of Fort Worth, and served on the national board of the Association of Junior Leagues. Lucy served many years on the board of the Lecture Foundation. She was a longtime member of the Jewel Charity and River Crest Country Club. Lucy was the last matriarch of the extended Ryan family, keeping up with the myriad activities of all the generations. She was the "go-to" person for the Ryan and Stripling family histories and the backgrounds of many organizations. Intellectually curious with an incisive mind, she kept up with current world and local events, even after losing her eyesight. In later years an entertaining afternoon would be driving around town with her driver describing the changes taking place throughout the city. She was always a gracious, caring and charming companion, beloved by all who knew her. The family is grateful to Mrs. Muse's amazing caregivers, Judy Banks, Eugenia Crouse, Sue Carter, JoJo Gibson and Marie Williams. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Maddox "Speedy" Muse; sisters, Elizabeth Ryan Bond and Anne Ryan Chilton; brothers, John C. Ryan III and Edwin S. Ryan; brothers-in-law, Perry Bass, Ernest Chilton and Ewell Muse Jr.; and sisters-in-law, Nancy Lee Bass, Mary Muse and Joan Ryan. Survivors: In addition to her beloved son, Edward Maddox Muse Jr., Mrs. Muse is survived by her sister-in-law, Mrs. John C. Ryan III; 18 nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins and extended family members. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Mrs. LUCY RYAN MUSE please visit our Sympathy Store.
