Dr. William M. Longsworth will officiate. Family and friends will gather immediately afterwards in the church's Wesley Hall. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to a charity of choice, in his memory, is suggested. Loren will always be remembered for his sense of humor and contagious laugh. He was a very caring person who was a mentor for many people. He once said, "To be a good lawyer, you must be a good listener." And he carried that through to his personal life as well! He was an avid supporter of the Fort Worth community and a very loving husband, father and friend. Born Sept. 7, 1929, in Vienna, Clark County, S.D., Loren was the son of Hans and Jenny Foss Hanson. He was the youngest of five children. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., where his father was elected state senator and circuit court judge. Loren graduated from Washington High School in 1947 and obtained his bachelor of arts and science degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia in 1952. He then attended law school at the University of Texas at Austin and was commissioned into the United States Air Force as a second lieutenant during the Korean War. He was an intelligence officer and instructor in the Officers Candidate School at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. While in the service, Loren married Mary Ann Richardson of Amarillo; they had three children, Robert, Peder and Amy. After his discharge from the Air Force, Loren completed his law degree at the University of Texas Law School and was appointed briefing attorney for three of justices of the Supreme Court of Texas. In 1957, Loren and his family moved to Fort Worth where he joined the law firm of Thompson, Walker, Smith and Shannon, which became Shannon, Gracey, Ratliff & Miller, of which he was a senior partner. During his law career, he was president of the Tarrant County Bar Association from 1976 to 1977 and was a member of the American Bar Association. In 1978 and 1980, while a director of the State Bar of Texas, he received two presidential citations for excellence. In 2002, he received the Blackstone Award, the highest professional award given by the Tarrant County Bar Association. Loren served for more than 20 years as a director of Texas Lawyers Insurance Exchange, a malpractice insurance company located in Austin. He also served as a director of Continental National Bank and its successor, Mbank of Fort Worth, until 1989. He was active in several civic organizations, the YMCA being one of his favorites. He served on the Camping Branch board for many years and became chairman of the Fort Worth Metropolitan YMCA in 1982 and was a recipient of its Chi-Rho Award. He was active in Fort Worth Air Power Council. As the chairman, he established a foundation that sponsors the "Sky Ball" as a charitable fundraiser each year to support our military. He also served as a trustee of the James L. and Eunice West Charitable Trust from 1981 to 1991. Loren served on the board of trustees of Texas Wesleyan University and was chairman of its board from 1995 to 1998. He was one of the trustees instrumental in Texas Wesleyan obtaining the law school, which was acquired by Texas A&M in 2013. He was particularly fond of his college fraternity, Kappa Alpha Order. Loren served as a representative of the fraternity for a number of years as well as a member of its national board. He became national president from 1977 until 1981. He established its charitable foundation, Kappa Alpha Order Educational Foundation, a provider of funds for leadership education and scholarships. Loren was a member of Cook-Peavy Lodge #1162, Fort Worth Scottish Rite Bodies, Moslah Shrine Patrol and the Royal Order of Jesters, Fort Worth Court #32. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth, where his cremated remains will be inurned in the church's columbarium. Loren's family is so grateful to all those who gave him such wonderful, loving care! Our thanks also to Community Hospice of Texas at James L.
