Mr. LEONARD HAROLD SCHREIER

FORT WORTH -- Leonard Harold “Lenny” Schreier passed away Saturday evening, Nov. 18, 2017. Mr. Schreier was 77. SERVICE: A celebration of Lenny’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, at Beth-El Congregation, 4900 Briarhaven Road. Family and friends will gather in the temple’s Great Hall immediately following the service. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to the S.P.C.A., the Humane Society or the World Wildlife Fund, in his memory, is suggested. Born June 22, 1940 in the Manhattan Borough of New York City, Lenny was the son of Louis and Ruth Bodner Schreier. Following the death of his father, Lenny was raised by his mother and step-father, Harry Levinger and older brother, Morty. When people would tell him they could tell he was from New York from his accent, he would say, “I don’t have an accent, you do!” Lenny was academically gifted and achieved admission to Stuyvesant, a highly selective public high school. After graduating, he attended City College of New York where he received a degree in accounting. After working several years in New York, Lenny moved to Texas in 1971to become the comptroller at Boro Industries; his relationship with Martin and Evelyn Seigel continued the rest of his life. In 1975, he started his own accounting firm, Schreier & Company, and merged his practice with Whitley Penn in 1999, where he worked until retiring in 2011. After retiring, Lenny continued to help several of his long-time clients. In retirement, he also volunteered at Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE). He truly enjoyed being able to contribute whatever he could to the success of others. Lenny was an avid reader, often reading two to three novels a month. He daily read the New York Times and worked the crossword puzzle. He was an animal and art lover, who was passionate about supporting many organizations and museums. His favorite place to visit was Colorado. He went to the Aspen area every summer for the last 45 years. He loved the Aspen Music Festival, especially sitting with his dog and wife, enjoying a bottle of wine. He enjoyed hiking the mountains and dining with friends. A wonderful family man, his family always came first. He was happily married for many years and a great Dad and Grandpa. Lenny will be remembered for his jovial personality, quick wit, abundant compassion and love of wine and Woodford. He was preceded in death by his parents and faithful Golden Retriever, Rhett Butler, who passed away on Oct. 26. His new Retriever, Ra, became his friend shortly thereafter. SURVIVORS: In addition to his wife of 31 years, Debbie, Lenny is survived by his children, Holly Schreier and her husband, Greg Housewirth, and their daughter, Jacqueline, and Dean Schreier; their mother, Tina; brother, Morty Schreier and his wife, Millie; niece, Randy and her husband, Mark Alhanti; nephew, Lance Schreier and his wife, Suzie; and their children.
