FORT WORTH -- Kenneth Sidney Baum, a loving husband. father and grandfather, died Thursday evening, March 24, 2016. Mr. Baum was 82 years old. Service: 2 p.m. Monday in the Sanctuary of Beth-El Congregation, 4900 Briarhaven Road with Rabbi Ralph Mecklenburger officiating. Following committal prayers, Kenneth will be laid to rest next to his wife, Sandra, in the Beth-El Section of Greenwood Memorial Park. Minyan service will be held Monday at the Temple, beginning at 6 p.m. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to Beth-El Congregation, in his memory, is suggested. Born Oct. 12, 1933, in Breckenridge, Kenneth was one of four children of Herman and Bess Kuperman Baum. In Fort Worth since 1940, he attended Lily B. Clayton Elementary and McLean Middle School, before graduating from R.L. Paschal High School and the University of Pennsylvania. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he returned to Fort Worth and the family business, where he had started working as a delivery boy at the age of 13. In 1959 he married Sandra Freedman of Dallas, and they built a lifelong circle of friends, some from Kenneth's childhood. Their three children were the center of a life of participation in their community. Gifted with total recall, Kenneth was always the person to whom everyone turned for information and counsel. He served Temple Beth-El and the Jewish Federation throughout his life as an active leader and valued volunteer. He was active in the Fort Worth Rotary Club for over 50 years and also active in the Fort Worth Chapter of the Torch Club. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Survivors: Kenneth is survived by children, Howard Baum and wife, Joy Allington-Baum, of Nashville, Tenn., Alissa Baum and husband, Lloyd Katz, of Scarsdale, N.Y., and Mindy Lindsey and husband, Norman, of Dallas; grandchildren, Ella and Evan Baum, Jessica Katz, and Austin and Hazel Lindsey; sisters, Lila Berlin and Freda Gail Stern; brother, Lester Baum; and nieces and nephews and their families.
