FORT WORTH -- Kay Frances Streit Smith went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, April 1, 2014. Mrs. Smith was 75 years old. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3401 Bellaire Drive South, followed by a reception. Family and friends will gather 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Robertson Mueller Harper. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to the Building Fund at Trinity Episcopal Church or to the Harmony Section at the Woman's Club of Fort Worth, in her memory, is suggested. Born in Vernon on July 19, 1938, Kay was the daughter of Alex C. and Clara Obenhaus Streit. She was a graduate of Lockett High School and Texas Christian University. While at TCU, she joined Kappa Kappa Gamma and remained an active member of over 60 years. Upon graduation, Kay taught sixth- and seventh-grade social studies and art at Ima Marsh Middle School for 15 years. She transitioned to TCU, working as an administrative assistant for the Office of Planned Giving until retirement. Kay was an artist in multiple mediums throughout her life. She took great pleasure in painting in watercolors, both landscapes and portraits of her grandchildren. She had a lifelong group of friends with whom she loved to spend time. In the early years, they went camping, boating and took long road trips. As the group aged, they moved up to resorts, cruises and motor homes. Kay was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she attended women's Bible Study. At the Woman's Club of Fort Worth, she was a member of the Harmony and Arts sections. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors: In addition to her husband of 57 years, James, Kay is survived by her son, Chance Smith and his wife, Deeya; daughter, LeeAnn Bearden and her husband, Rusty; beloved grandchildren, Garrett and Emily Smith and Bailey and Jesse Bearden; brother, Don Streit and his wife, Joni of Vernon; sister, Robbie Streit Jeter of Wichita Falls; numerous nieces and nephews and their families; and a host of friends.
