FORT WORTH – Joy Crowder Begley passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, December 26, 2018, surrounded by her children. Mrs. Begley was 85. Family and friends will gather from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Robertson Mueller Harper. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church, 1000 Penn Street, with a reception to follow in the Chisholm Trail Room at Trinity Terrace. She will be laid to rest privately in Greenwood Memorial Park. Honorary Bearers will be her grandsons, Matthew Miller, Stanley Miller, Kirk Berend, Will Berend, Brett Anderson, Grant Begley and Paul Salfen. Born in Fort Worth on November 12, 1933, Joy was the daughter of Ray and Alpha Griggs Crowder. She graduated from R. L. Paschal High School (where she was a cheerleader, in case she never told you) before attending Christian College and Texas Christian University. In 1953, she was married to Robert Miller, the father of her children. In 1980, she married Grant F. Begley, M.D., who died in 2016. Joy loved to travel, sew, dance the hula and spend time with friends and family. She was an avid (rabid) Cowboy, Ranger, Longhorn and Horned Frog Fan. Later, she became an Aggie Mom and Grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 36 years, Grant, and sister, JoAnn Crowder Walker, who died in 2017. Survivors: In addition to her children, Gary Miller, Mike Miller and his wife, Kitty, and Katherine Miller Berend and her husband, Jim, Joy is survived by Grant’s children, Philip Begley, Susan Anderson and her husband, Gil, Peggy Salfen and her husband, Ron, and Jan Hudson and her husband, Dennis; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews and their families. Memorials: Consideration of contributions to First Presbyterian Church or to a charity of your choice, in Joy’s memory, is suggested.
