FORT WORTH -- John Edward McDonnell passed from the arms of his wife to the arms of our Lord on Sunday evening, Sept. 1, 2013, during his 86th year. Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Cathedral. Interment will follow in Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: Family and friends will gather 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper with a recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Born in Parkersburg, W.Va., on Dec. 26, 1926, John was the son of John Alexander and Elma Ethel Roberts McDonnell. He received a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. in 1955 before moving to Texas. A longtime resident of Fort Worth, John married the love of his life, Dianna Kay Charles, and they recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. John and Dianna raised three children. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James R. McDonnell; and brother-in-law, William F. Smith. Survivors: In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children, Rafael Charles McDonnell, Leticia Dawn "Letty" Mays and her husband, Chapman Rogers Mays, and Andres Estevan "Andy" McDonnell and his wife, Elizabeth Anne; grandchildren, Annabelle, Josh, Sarah, Emily and Kimberly; sister, Kitty Smith; and many close relatives and wonderful friends.
