FORT WORTH -- John Riley Harkey, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Monday morning, June 25, 2012, during his 65th year. Service: 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper, the Rev. Carl Shannon officiating. Visitation: He will lie in state on Thursday where family and friends will gather from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Great Room at the funeral home. Memorials: Consideration of contributions to a charity of one's choice, in John's memory, is suggested. Born in San Saba on April 8, 1947, John was the son of Riley and Joan Harkey. He was a 1965 graduate of San Saba High School and received his B.S. from Texas Technological College, now Texas Tech University, in 1969. John was an avid golfer, a dancer and singer, and loved anything "George Strait." He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. In his professional life, John retired from paint contracting and sales. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Donna, John is survived by his children, Leah Harkey Wheeler and husband, Clint, Cambria Lyn Harkey and John R. Harkey Jr. and wife, Jessica; their mother, Leah Wayne Edmondson; stepchildren, Peter Hitt and Pamela Hitt Townley and husband, Gary; grandchildren, twins, Benjamin Caden and Mackenzie Kate Wheeler, Beau Bryson Wheeler and Dimitri Ordonez; and brother, Bruce Wayne Harkey and wife, Jennifer.
