JOANNE HALL PAVEY

July 11, 1938 — September 25, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joanne Hall Pavey on September 25, 2024, at the age of 86. Joanne was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who touched the lives of all who knew her.

Joanne (Jo) was born on July 11, 1938 and raised in El Paso, Texas. She was a member of the first graduating class from Burgess High School in 1956. She met and married her soulmate John Fox Hall in El Paso in 1960. She supported him during college by working in Lawrence Livermore Laboratories in Berkeley, California. They began their family, then moved to Houston where they lived for 30 years. They later moved to the family lake house in Livingston, Texas where Jo lived for 20 years. After John’s death in 2000, Jo married Sherman “Buddy” Pavey in 2003 with whom she spent 15 years until she was again widowed.

Jo spent her adult life as a devoted wife, mother, homemaker, and friend. She was deeply grounded in her Christian faith. She and her husband John were founding members of Northwoods Presbyterian Church in Houston, and she served as the Events and Fellowship Coordinator and an Elder at First Presbyterian Church of Livingston. She was the first to offer to help someone in need and organized donation drives for several charitable organizations in Livingston.

Jo was a conservationist who loved nature. She taught her family to camp, hike, and clean up litter wherever they went. She served as a Girl Scout troop leader for her daughters for several years. Jo also loved plants and kept beautiful flower and vegetable gardens.

Jo was a talented seamstress and occasionally worked as a professional tailor. She sewed both of her daughters’ wedding dresses, several of her husband’s business suits, liturgical church banners, much of her family’s clothing, and more. Jo mastered many handicrafts including bisque pottery and needle crafts. Her family and community benefitted from Jo’s love of cooking, most notably her Mexican food. She cooked a monthly lunch and the weekly communion bread for the First Presbyterian Church of Livingston. Jo loved living at Lake Livingston and “cutting the water” with her wave rider, boating and water skiing. Her adventurous spirit and zest for life inspired those around her.

Joanne is survived by her children, Janice (Matt) Kurth, Jeanette (Adair) McKnight and John Fox (Ginger) Hall Jr., grandchildren Carol (Ari) Kurth, John Fox Hall III, Susan (Billy) Huntington, Nason (Jess) McKnight, Julia McKnight, great grandchildren John Fox Hall IV, Arden Annie McKnight, and her precious dog Lil Bit. She is predeceased by her husbands John Fox Hall Sr. and Sherman Pavey and her brothers Don and Gerald Geurin.

A celebration of Joanne’s life will be held at 4 pm Saturday, November 16, at University Christian Church in Fort Worth, Texas where friends and family are invited to share their memories and honor her remarkable legacy. Please wear your sparkle and bling to honor Joanne’s favorite fashion. Joanne’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those she loved, and she will be deeply missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Heather’s Old Skool Village https://www.heathersoldskoolvillage.org.
