FORT WORTH -- Jean Wieler Newbill passed away Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, early in her 72nd year, after a lengthy battle with liver disease. Service: Following a funeral at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Rita Catholic Church, 5550 E. Lancaster Ave., Jean will be laid to rest privately in the mausoleum in Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: She will lie in state Thursday at Robertson Mueller Harper, where family and friends will be received 6 to 8 p.m. in the Great Room. Memorials: Consideration of contributions to a charity of one's choice, in her memory, is suggested. Jean was born Aug. 29, 1940, in Muenster to John J. and Susanne Walterscheid Wieler. She graduated from Muenster High School, where she was a majorette, played in the concert band, was co-captain of the basketball team and was honored as homecoming queen. She attended North Texas State, where she met and married her husband, Mike; they recently celebrated their 52nd anniversary. After a few years in Florida, they returned to Texas and fell in love with Fort Worth. Jean was active in several organizations, including the Junior Woman's Club. She served as president of both the Jaycee Wives Club and Woodhaven Woman's Club. Jean loved her job as a teacher's aide at Eastern Hills Elementary, but began another career as partner and office manager at Fort Worth Business Forms. After the sale of the business, she retired to spoiling grandchildren and enjoying her hobbies. Survivors: In addition to her husband, Mike, Jean is survived by her daughters, Marci Newbill, Sheri Garbo and her husband, Jack, and Carli Dyer; grandchildren, Kayci and Molly Garbo, and Rebecca and David Dyer; sister, Juanita Broome and her husband, John, of Springfield, Va.; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
