ALEDO -- Jack Warren Rider died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, one month shy of his 90th birthday. A down-to-earth man, Jack wanted neither a funeral nor a memorial service. According to his wishes, he will have a private cremation with only immediate family members in attendance. Memorials: If desired, donations may be made in Jack's name to the American Heart Association or to Community Hospice, 6100 Western Place, Suite 500, Fort Worth, Texas 76107. Jack was born in Little Rock, Ark., on Dec. 13, 1924 and He overcame many obstacles in his young life, including a chronic orthopedic illness that threatened his life and made him walk with crutches. Eventually cured of his illness, Jack became a stellar athlete, playing basketball, tennis and golf. He remained an avid golfer throughout his life and shot his age more than once. Jack met, Jerry, the love of his life when he was 14 and continued to adore her throughout their 67-year marriage. He and Jerry equally adored their daughter, Jan. He worked very hard in the business world, becoming president of The Billings Corp., a builders' hardware firm. He was a wonderful provider and always kept his family safe and secure. When Jack retired, he turned his attention to his beloved golf, his clean-as-a-whistle workshop and travel. He fiercely fought many illnesses in his last years, including a weak heart that eventually failed him. Even in hospice, he was able to laugh and joke with the nurses who he charmed. The family would like to thank the remarkable staff at Harris Hospital and Community Hospice for their kind care during Jack's final days and for providing unlimited supplies of ice cream, truly his favorite food. Survivors: Jack is survived by his beautiful wife, Jerry; his much-loved daughter, Jan; his son-in-law, Tom, who was his buddy; and Isabelle, his cat, whom he treated like a queen.
