FORT WORTH -- Helen Karasic Richards, beloved wife, aunt and a friend to many, died peacefully Sunday morning, Sept. 21, 2014. Mrs. Richards was 98 years old. Service: Following committal prayers on Tuesday, Helen was laid to rest next to her husband, Jobe, in the Beth-El Section at Greenwood Memorial Park. Rabbi Ralph Mecklenburger officiated at the service. A native of the Brooklyn Borough of New York City, N.Y., Helen was born May 2, 1916, the daughter of Hyman and Celia Herschorn Karasic. She married Jobe H. Richards Jr. after World War II in the late 1940s and moved to Fort Worth where Helen was a member of Beth-El Congregation. Helen enjoyed planting and gardening around her home and was recognized by the Star-Telegram in the 1960s for her outstanding horticulture. She also enjoyed the arts, music, and training her many birds that were all called "Skippy." Special thanks go to Herb Simmons, her caretaker extraordinaire and very best friend. Helen resided at Colonial Gardens these past years and received exceptional love and care from the staff. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and her six siblings, Sara, Jack, Al, Sadie, Rose and Josephine. Survivors: Many nieces and nephews survive Helen including Howard and Rhoda Bernstein of Fort Worth, Cheryl and Richard Kress of Baltimore, Md., and Denise and Carl Labarba of Dallas.
