FORT WORTH -- Helen "Elena" Chairez Balandran, a loving and devoted wife and mother, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, March 6, 2014. Mrs. Balandran was 89 years old. Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 201 Thornhill Drive. Following committal prayers, she will be laid to rest in Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: Family and friends will gather from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Robertson Mueller Harper with a recitation of the holy rosary beginning at 6 p.m. Born Dec. 31, 1924, in Lockhart, Elena was the daughter of Jose and Elvira Aguilar Chariez. She married Santos Neggrete Balandaran on May 13, 1941; the family moved to Fort Worth in 1948. Elena was a longtime parishioner of Immaculate Heart and a member of Guadalupana Society. Her family wishes to express its appreciation to Vitas Hospice at Baylor All Saints Medical Center for the care and kindness shown their mother. Survivors: Mrs. Balandran is survived by her children, Olivia Beserra and Leonard, Rachel Ortega, Dora Garcia, Gonsalo Balandran and Angie, and Santos Balandran Jr. and Olivia; "Guelita" to her 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
