GLORIA NEYLAND

FORT WORTH -- Gloria Ann Fisher Neyland went to be with her Lord Thursday evening, Aug. 30, 2012, during her 83rd year. Service: The Burial Office and Holy Eucharist will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3401 Bellaire Drive South, with The Rev. Carlye Hughes, celebrant. Following committal prayers, Ann will be laid to rest next to her husband, Bob, in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation: Family and friends will gather from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Great Room at Robertson Mueller Harper. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to Trinity Episcopal Church or the SPCA of Texas, in her memory, is suggested. Born in Fort Worth on Jan. 12, 1929, the daughter of John and Grace Fisher, Ann went to Lily B. Clayton Elementary, McLean Junior High and graduated from R.L. Paschal High School. She attended Monticello School for girls in St. Louis prior to enrolling at the University of Texas in Austin in 1947, where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and met future husband, Robert Reese Neyland. Upon graduation, Ann returned to Fort Worth where she began an active civic life. She was a member of the Junior League of Fort Worth and the Altar Guild at her beloved church, Trinity Episcopal, which she attended with family for 60 years. Ann's spirit can best be defined as one of humility, sensitivity, love, compassion, grace, peace and open mindedness for all. More than anything, she loved her family, doting on her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Gatherings at "Nana's" house over the holidays for family football games and her specialty, chicken spaghetti, were rituals enjoyed by the entire clan. She loved all sports but was especially devoted to her Texas Rangers baseball club, win or lose, and the Texas Longhorns. Some of her favorite outings were attending day games at the Ballpark in Arlington with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Survivors: In addition to her sons and their wives, Bob and Cathy of Glen Ellyn, Ill., John and Lesley of San Antonio, and Mark and Nancy of Fort Worth, Ann is survived by her grandchildren, Kate and Jordan Rickard of Seattle, Wash., Callie and Carlos Moran of Chicago, Reese and Evan of San Antonio, Rob of Glen Ellyn, Robert and Caroline Chidgey of San Antonio; and precious great-granddaughter, Eliana of Seattle.
