FORT WORTH -- Gladys Raylene Slade Deweber passed away peacefully late Saturday evening, March 22, 2014. Mrs. Deweber was 78 years old. Service: 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper with Mr. Mark Kelly officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: Friends and family will gather 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to the Meals on Wheels, 501 Pelham St., Bowie, Texas 76230, in her memory, is suggested. A native and lifelong resident of Texas, Gladys was born in Bowie on Oct. 3, 1935, the daughter of Troy and Ruby Wright Slade. She was raised as a Baptist and remained a devout Christian the rest of her life. Gladys moved to Fort Worth seven years ago to live with her daughter. She was an outstanding cook, an avid reader and loved all animals. She enjoyed watching "Old Westerns" because they didn't contain profanity. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors: In addition to her loving daughter, Arlene of Fort Worth, Gladys is survived by her sons and their wives, Stephen and Beverly of Bowie and Stanley and Denise of Jacksboro; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda Slade Gaul of Mineral Wells and Lois Slade Phillips of Bowie; close friend of over 30 years, L.D. McGinnis, whom she called her third son; and her devoted Maltese granddogs, Buffy and Angel.
