FORT WORTH -- George Washington Larson died peacefully Saturday evening, Nov. 24, 2012, during his 94th year. Service: Funeral liturgy will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the sanctuary of Trinity Lutheran Church, 3621 Tulsa Way, with the Rev. Erik Gronberg and the Rev. Kendra Mohn officiating. Following committal prayers, George will be laid to rest with his wives, Isabel and Erline, in Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: Mr. Larson will lie in state 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Robertson Mueller Harper; family and friends will be received 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Fellowship Hall at the church. Bearers of his casket will be his grandsons, Joe and Jon West; great-grandsons, Wesley and Dylan Jackson; and Travis Bogard and Frank Downing. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to the Music Fund at Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association, in his memory, is suggested. Born in Big Sandy, Mont., on Feb. 22, 1918, George was the son of Leo Cornelius and Gina Larson. As an adult, George relocated to San Diego, Calif., where he worked as an engineer building airplanes at Consolidated Aircraft during World War II. Following the war, George and family relocated to Fort Worth with Convair, which became General Dynamics, where he lived for the rest of his life. While working for the company, George earned his bachelor's degree from Texas Christian University. Before retiring from General Dynamics after 45 years, he was part of the team that designed part of the F-16 airplane. Throughout his life, George loved to travel, was an avid vegetable gardener and enjoyed playing bridge. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 60 years, where he served on the church council, sang in the choir, ushered and more. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Isabel Knutson Larson, who died from cancer in 1971, and Erline Elizabeth Shotwell Larson, who died in 1995 after 22 years of wedded bliss; sons-in-law, Phil West and Charles Kee; and granddaughter, Charlotte Anne Kee. One of nine children, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Leodolph Larson and his wife, Edna; sister, Edna Grace Larson Joraanstad and her husband, Kenneth; and brothers-in-law, Royce Montonye and Irvin Ydstie. Survivors: In addition to his son, Dr. Dennis George Larson and Laurie Jueneman of Fort Collins, Colo., George is survived by his daughters, Marlys Larson West of Poway, Calif., and Nancy Borgman Kee of Dallas; grandchildren, Lyndsey Larson, Joe and Jon West and Elisa Rode and Curt; great-grandsons, Wesley and Dylan Jackson; brothers and their wives, Merle Larson and Delores, Floyd Larson and Bonnie; sisters and their husbands, Melba Larson Montonye, Lois Larson Ydstie, Eunice Larson Lovaas and Dan, and Evelyn Larson Olson and Loren; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
