FORT WORTH -- George Thompson III died peacefully Tuesday morning, Jan. 22, 2013, during his 87th year. Service: 11 a.m. Friday at All Saints Episcopal Church, 5100 Crestline Road, with the Rev. Christopher Jambor, celebrant. He will be laid to rest privately in Greenwood Memorial Park. Family and friends will gather at River Crest Country Club after the church service. Born in Fort Worth on Nov. 24, 1925, George was the son of Beatrice and George Thompson Jr. He attended school in Fort Worth before finishing at the New Mexico Military Institute. After graduating from NMMI, he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the destroyer escorts USS Engstrom and USS Raby in the Pacific theater during World War II. Following the war, George attended and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin before returning to Fort Worth where he married Betty Morlang in 1948.
