FORT WORTH -- Gary Kaftan passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, Aug. 23, 2016. Mr. Kaftan was 78 years old. Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Kornbleet Memorial Chapel, located in Ahavath Sholom Cemetery, 411 N. University Dr. Rabbi Andrew Bloom and Cantor Shoshana Abrams Kaikov will officiate. Interment will follow in the cemetery. Shiva will be held at the Kaftan residence with a minyan service beginning at 6:00 p.m. Thursday. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to Congregation Ahavath Sholom or to a charity of choice, in his memory, is suggested. Born Dec. 5, 1937 in Boston, Mass., Gary was the son of Hyman Godfrey and Hannah Ann Sinrich Kaftan. He was a retired aeronautical engineer and a mason. His memberships included Congregation Ahavath Sholom, B'nai B'rith and Polytechnic Lodge #925, A.F. & A.M. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Cookie, Gary is survived by his sons, Howard and his wife, Vickey, and Mike and his partner, Chris Oldham; granddaughter, Heather; sister and her husband, Brenda and Gerry Hurwitz and their family.
