Mr. GAIL LESTER QUANZ

DECATUR -- Gail Lester Quanz slipped the bounds of earth and stepped into the arms of God Thursday afternoon, July 2, 2015. He battled Alzheimer's disease the last few years and had lived at the Riverside Inn since November 0f 2014. Mr. Quanz was 78 years old. Service: 11 a.m. Monday in Smithfield Cemetery. Mr. Mike McDowell of the Decatur Church of Christ will officiate. Mr. Quanz will lie in state from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Drawing Room at Robertson Mueller Harper. Gail grew up in Watonga, Okla., but joined the U.S. Air Force after high school graduation. He became an air traffic controller while in the Air Force and subsequently this became his life's career. Gail always deemed it a pleasure "to get to go to work." After retiring from the FAA, he worked as a contract instructor at the Air Traffic Control Training Center near D/FW. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Ruby Quanz of Decatur, Gail is survived by his children, Jamie Stallings of Midland, David Quanz of San Angelo, Chris Quanz of San Antonio and Karen Sterry of Heath. Left to mourn his passing are his stepchildren, Teressa Mick of Granbury, Kevin Walters of Fort Worth and Chad Walters of Abilene. Gail was blessed with 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Heaven has gained a special person who was always willing to build, create, help and care for others.
