FORT WORTH -- Fanny Kern Brooks died peacefully early Monday afternoon, March 24, 2014. Mrs. Brooks was 95 years old. Memorial service: 10 a.m. Thursday at Beth-El Congregation, 4900 Briarhaven Road, with Rabbi Ralph Mecklenburger officiating. A service at the grave will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Temple Beth-El Memorial Park on Austin Highway in San Antonio. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to Beth-El Congregation, Fort Worth, Temple Beth-El, San Antonio or Jewish Children's Regional Service in Metairie, La., in her memory, is suggested. Born May 5, 1918, in New Orleans, La., Fanny became a San Antonio resident in 1938 and so remained for 68 years before moving to Fort Worth in 2001. She was a member of Temple Beth-El in San Antonio and Beth-El Congregation in Fort Worth. Fanny was very active in both religious and philanthropic organizations. She was a former president of Temple Beth-El Sisterhood, Women's Auxiliary to Goodwill Industries and the Pan Hellenic organization. She was also a board member and an active participant in multiple San Antonio philanthropies. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Gaye Anne Brooks; son, Bernard M. Brooks Jr.; and grandson, Jason Matthew Hiney. Survivors: Mrs. Brooks is survived by her granddaughter and her husband, Jude A. and Marc E. Sloter of Fort Worth; their children, Mollie, Caroline and Stewart; grandson and his wife, Bret M. and Kristine Brooks of Shakopee, Minn.; their children, Taylor, Kaylee, Blake and Blane; grandson, Bernard M. Brooks III of Dallas; daughter-in-law, Sherry E. Brooks of Dallas; and son-in-law, David W. Felder of San Antonio.
