FORT WORTH -- Esther Cohen Rosen, 94, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, Feb. 8, 2015, in Houston. Service: 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Barnett Sanctuary at Congregation Ahavath Sholom, 4050 S. Hulen St., with Rabbi Andrew Bloom and Cantor Shoshana Abrams Kaikov officiating. Following committal prayers, she will be laid to rest next to her husband in Ahavath Sholom Cemetery. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Services, 6200 Braeswood Blvd., Houston, Texas 77074, the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of choice, in Esther's memory, is suggested. Esther was born Sept. 10, 1920, in Savannah, Ga., to parents, I. Herman and Ida Cohen. At the age of 6 months the family moved to Fort Worth where Esther graduated from R.L. Paschal High School in 1938. She was introduced to Bernard "Buddy" Rosen in 1945 and they were married in Fort Worth in 1947. Esther was a very devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Esther's devotion to her husband Buddy during his 17 years of home dialysis was a testament to her strength and love. Both Esther and Buddy were lifelong members of Congregation Ahavath Sholom; Esther volunteered and served in numerous Jewish organizations. Esther worked for many years in the accounting department at Bogart Industries and in later years as a receptionist in the Ahavath Sholom synagogue office. Acknowledgment and appreciation from the family go to Esther's caregiver for the last 2 years, Patrice Robinson, whose devotion and love to their mother was a special gift. Also, the family would like to acknowledge Velma Landover whose care and devotion to Esther in Fort Worth was greatly appreciated. The family extends their thanks and appreciation to the entire staff in the Klein Unit at Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Services in Houston especially to Dr. Hattie Henderson, Janice Reagan, Melanie Becker, Pat Mbola and the nurses and CNA’s whose compassion and care were so important to Esther. The family also expresses their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Vitas Hospice Care. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy; her parents, Herman and Ida Cohen; her brother and sister-in-law, Al and Hazel Cohen; in-laws, Oscar and Ida Rosen; brothers and sisters-in-law, Norman and Norma Rosen and Norman and Shirley Winterman. Survivors: Esther is survived by her four children, Jay and Linda Rosen of Houston, daughters, Diane and Jeff Newman of Scottsdale, Ariz., Lynn Rosen and Ted Strickland of Ashburn, Va., and Paula Rosen of Fort Worth. Esther is also survived by six grandchildren, Tom and Jennifer Newman and Ryan and Megan Newman, all of Phoenix, Ariz., Rachel Rosen of Austin, Zach Rosen of Houston, Erika Strickland of Royersford, Pa., and Jessica Strickland of Limmerick, Pa. She was also blessed to have five great-grandchildren, Trey and Luke Newman, William and Jax Newman, and Nathan Cagliola. And honoring her life were four nieces and two nephews in Texas and California; and friends from the Fort Worth community and Congregation Ahavath Sholom in Fort Worth.
