Fort Worth, Texas -- Dorothy Bridges passed away early Saturday morning, June 19, at the age of 98. A service celebrating her life will be held at 11 am Tuesday, June 22, in the Chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper. Friends will be received from 4 to 6 pm Monday at the funeral home. Dorothy was born on May 6, 1923 in Ranger, Texas to Matilda Rose and Richard August Juren. The family moved the next year to Temple, Texas, and then to Fort Worth, Texas in 1931. After obtaining a degree in commercial art, Dorothy worked during the World War II years on military projects in the technical drafting departments of Southwestern Bell and then Pure Oil Company. In 1946 Dorothy wed Philip Bridges of Stephenville, Texas, a marriage that lasted 39 years until his death in 1985. After studying art under Bror Utter, Emily Guthrie Smith, and John Chumley, Dorothy became a fashion illustrator and professional artist. Her love of fashion and art extended to her love of gardening, and the yard of her home was awash in color and beauty, that exhibited her artistic touch. Dorothy was a member of Matthews Memorial Methodist Church, University United Methodist Church, and Handley United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Philip and brother, Joe Henry Juren. She is survived by her son, Richard T. Bridges, of Fort Worth, Texas.
