Mrs. DORIS RUTH LEHMAN PECK

FORT WORTH -- Doris Sara Peck passed away peacefully at home Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 23, 2015. Mrs. Peck was 92 years old. The family invites you to join us 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, in the Great Room at Robertson Mueller Harper. A prayer and meditation will begin at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Michael Waschevski from First Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth. A service at the grave will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, in Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Broken Arrow, Okla. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to a charity of choice, in her memory, is suggested. Doris was born April 8, 1923, the daughter of Joseph and Sara Margaret Lehman, in York, Pa. The family moved to California when she was a child. Doris lived in Tulsa, Okla., until she was a junior at the old Tulsa Central High School when they moved to Findlay, Ohio. After her graduation from Findlay High School, Doris returned to Tulsa and completed business college. Doris married her high school sweetheart, Pete Peck, in Tulsa on March 14, 1942. The couple returned to Findlay as her husband entered the service in World War II. During the war, Doris worked for a defense contractor in Toledo, Ohio, before moving to New York City to work as a secretary for a wartime transportation company. After the war, she and Pete and their first son, Michael, returned to Oklahoma A&M, now Oklahoma State University, in Stillwater, for Pete to complete his college degree. The family moved to Oklahoma City where Doris was a stay-at-home mom to Michael and her second son, Steven. In 1961, the family moved to Brownsville and finally Corpus Christi and San Antonio. Doris began working in the insurance industry and was administrative assistant to the mayor of Corpus Christi. After her beloved husband, Pete, died in 1993, Doris moved to Fort Worth to be near her sons. She made friends easily and was soon involved in bridge groups and The Newcomers Club. She volunteered at the Ridglea Library and the Japanese Gardens, where she received an award for volunteer of the year from the city of Fort Worth. She also went to a fitness center on a regular basis and ran in mini-marathons. Doris did not want to sit still and enjoyed life to the fullest. She had a keen mind and a quick wit and was a compassionate giving person; she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family would like to thank Crystal Tachell and her staff of caregivers at Broadway Plaza Cityview for the wonderful care and kindness in taking care of Doris in her apartment as she wished. Also, the family would like to thank the staff of Alpha and Omega Hospice for their care. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her brother Joe Lehman. Survivors: In addition to her sons, P. Michael and his wife, Ellen, of Fort Worth and Steven and his wife, Frances, of Colleyville, Doris is survived by her grandchildren, Michael and his wife, Lori, of Fort Worth, Ansley Buttram and her husband, Stephen, of Houston, Sarah Simmons and her husband, Alex, of Las Colinas and Christopher Peck of Stillwater, Okla.: great-grandchildren, Cole, Cate and Cash Peck of Fort Worth and Carter, Oliver, Barney and Mary Buttram of Houston; sister-in-law, Dorothy Peck of Joplin, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
