Don Ray Russell passed away Thursday afternoon, February 10. He was 80. Family and friends will gather from 5 to 7 pm Monday, February 14, in the Great Room at Robertson Mueller Harper. A Celebration of His Life will be held at 1 pm Tuesday, February 15, in the Sanctuary of Arborlawn United Methodist Church, 5001 Briarhaven Road. He will be laid to rest privately on Wednesday, February 16, in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Born in Fort Worth, Don was the son of Otis W. and Lillie Squyres Russell. After graduating from Carter-Riverside High School, he went on to study business at Arlington State University, now the University of Texas at Arlington. Don met Shelly Blanke at North Texas State University in 1962 and were married in 1963. They have two sons, Jimmy, and Randy. After Don retired, he spent his time playing golf, cards and traveling with his friends and family. He was a life member of the Julian Feild Lodge, #908, Ft. Worth Valley Scottish Rite and the Moslah Shriners. He was a Potentate in 2005 and served as Director of the Royal Order of Jesters Court #32 in 2013. His time spent in these organizations began while he was an active member of the Ft. Worth Jaycees where he made many lifetime friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Roy Russell, and his sister, Charlye Marie Cowan. In addition to his wife Shelly, Don is survived by his sons, Jimmy and Randy Russell and his wife Lisa; and his grandchildren, Colbey, Katelyn and Claire Russell. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to an organization Don felt strongly about, the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, in his memory, is suggested.
