Mr. DON DIXON "Dick" DAVIS

FORT WORTH -- Don Dixon "Dick" Davis, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at his home Sunday morning, July 13, 2014. Mr. Davis was 87 years old. Service: 10 a.m. Thursday at Arborlawn United Methodist Church, 5001 Briarhaven Road, with a reception to follow in church's Lower Common. The Rev. DeAndrea Dare and the Rev. Verne Fuqua will officiate. Visitation: Dick will lie in state Wednesday at Robertson Mueller Harper where family and friends will be received in the Great Room from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to Arborlawn United Methodist Church Foundation or to a charity of choice, in his memory, is suggested. Born in Newton, Iowa, on Feb. 24, 1927, Dick was the son of Tom and Pauline Davis and older brother of Tom Davis. He spent most of his younger years with his family in Newton where he attended Washington Grade School and Newton Junior High School. After the family moved to Fort Worth in 1942, he graduated R.L. Paschal High School before joining the U.S. Navy at age 17. Following his tour in the navy, Dick attended Texas Christian University and then University of Texas at Austin, where he pledged Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Soon after college, he joined the Vernon Company, alongside his father and worked the Texas territory. He met his wife and mother of his five daughters, Beverly, through a colleague of his father. It was love at first sight. They were married 47 years until her death in 1995. Dick married Leta Sikes in 1996, and resided in Fort Worth. They enjoyed their days together to the very end. Dad always felt blessed every day that he was given two wonderful women to spend his life with. He will be forever cherished by his children and a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who have a treasure trove of DD's wonderful humor to keep his memory alive for generations to come. He will be missed by all, but never will we forget him. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Leta Sikes Davis, Dick is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Debbie and Tracy Wilmoth, Terri and Ken Rawson, Pam Donohue, Brenda and Randy Honeycutt and Paula Davis and Kevin Williams; Leta's children, Steve and Patti Sikes and Suzie and Tom Hackleman; grandchildren, Chris, Jenny and Brian, Aimee and Brian, Emily and Jonathan, Bryan and Liz, Heather, Dylan, Brenda, Chad and Amanda, Mallory, Wade, Gillian, Courtney and Aaron, and Clayton and Lindsay, Katherine and Norman, Clark and Mary; and great-grandchildren, Logan, Will, Abby, August, Bailey, Garren, Brent, Paige, Kaitlyn, Kaleb, Stevie, Sage, Finley, Calvin, Owen, Levi and Warren.
