FORT WORTH -- David Luskey, a kind, gentle man, passed away peacefully Monday morning, Aug. 6, 2012, two days before his 86th birthday. Service: 10 a.m. Thursday in the Barnett Sanctuary at Congregation Ahavath Sholom, 4050 S. Hulen St., with Rabbi Andrew Bloom and Cantor Shoshana Abrams officiating. He will receive military honors under the auspices of Martin Hochster Jewish War Veterans Post 755. Following committal prayers, David will be laid to rest in Ahavath Sholom Cemetery. Shiva will be held Thursday at the Luskey residence, with minyan services beginning at 6 p.m. Bearers of his casket will be his grandsons and nephews. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, www.pdf.org, in David Luskey's name or to a charity of one's choice, in his memory, is suggested. Born in Fort Worth on Aug. 8, 1926, David was the son of Jake and Rose Frauman Luskey. After graduating from R.L. Paschal High School, he earned his degree in business from TCU. David served during World War II in the U.S. Army in Korea as a chaplain's assistant. He and Idelle Engelberg married June 19, 1951, and raised their family in Fort Worth. Along with his four brothers and father, he was one of the founders of Luskey's Western Stores. He was a member of Congregation Ahavath Sholom, Beth-El Congregation, B'nai B'rith and the Martin Hochster Jewish War Veterans Post 755. His memberships also included Ridglea and Colonial country clubs and ballroom dancing clubs, Farando and Dinner Dance Club. Active and fun-loving, David enjoyed playing golf, photography, boating, water-skiing and fishing. He was a ham radio operator, did do-it-yourself projects and loved sports cars. His family would like to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Robert H. Kelly and the staff at Stonegate Nursing Center for the care given and many kindnesses shown to David and the family. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Louis Luskey, Sarah Luskey Schwartz, Edward Luskey and Gary Luskey. Survivors: In addition to his wife of 61 years, Idelle, David is survived by his daughter, Debra Luskey Shtofman and her husband, Michael; son, Michael Luskey and his wife, Amy; grandchildren, Kevin Shtofman, Scott Shtofman, Alyson Luskey and Madelyn Luskey; sister, Rebecca "Toots" Gold; brother, Alvin "Butch" Luskey and his wife, Sandra; sisters-in-law, Bernice Luskey and Lorraine Luskey; many nieces and nephews and their families; and countless friends.
