FORT WORTH -- David Bernard Canter passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, Dec. 4, 2013, during his 89th year. Service: 11 a.m. Thursday in the Kornbleet Memorial Cemetery Chapel located in Ahavath Sholom Cemetery, 411 N. University Drive, with Rabbi Andrew Bloom officiating. He will receive military honors from the Martin Hochster Jewish War Veterans Post 755. Shiva and minyan service will be held at the Canter residence, beginning at 6 p.m. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to a charity of one's choice, in his memory, is suggested. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., on Feb. 5, 1924, David was the son of Charles and Fannie Canter. He was very proud of his military service, speaking of his time in the U.S. Army with great respect. He returned home where he received a BA degree in business from Temple University before becoming involved in the family's hat stores. After marrying Ceil and becoming a "Texan," her children became his new family, all of whom he loved, especially Melissa and Jocelyn Krodman and William and Madison Boardman, the grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan of any ball-related game, especially Philladelphia teams. His association with Congregation Ahavath Sholom also became an important element in his life. As a sales associate with Dillard's in the men's suits and coats department, he was awarded the company's 2006 Pacemakers Sales Award. This very "dapper" man will be missed by his devoted wife, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and Ben Wexler. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Ceil, David is survived by his children, Elliot Canter, Craig Canter, Karen Canter Weinberg, Scott Canter, and their families; extended family, Donna Boardman Krodman and her husband, Steve, Aaron Boardman and Morry Boardman and his wife, Rebecca; nine grandchildren; and a niece and nephew and their families.
