Mrs. CORRINE HUGGHINS HULSEY

FORT WORTH -- Corinne Hugghins Hulsey passed away on Friday, April 10, 2015, in Fort Worth. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Thursday in the sanctuary of University Christian Church, 2720 S. University Drive. A private committal will be held prior to the service. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to two of her lifelong commitments, University Christian Church Children's Education Fund, 2720 S. University Drive, Fort Worth, Texas 76109 and ACH Child and Family Services (All Church Home), 3721 Wichita St., Fort Worth, Texas 76119, in her memory, is suggested. Corinne was born Dec. 3, 1917, to Mary Leona Phillips and William Thomas Hugghins in Troup. She graduated from Kerens High School in 1935 and Tyler Commercial College in 1937. She then moved to the big city of Fort Worth where she chose to accept a job with Texas Electric Service Co. because they offered $10 more per month than Lone Star Gas. The decision was important, because it was there, on a blind date, that she met her "rock" and future husband, Burl Hulsey Jr. They married June 18, 1941, in Riverside, Calif., where Burl was based in the Army Air Corps. When Burl came home from the war in 1945, they moved back to Fort Worth and began a life together that would last until Burl's death in 2005. To say that she was a "homemaker" would be a vast understatement. There was almost no part of the job description that she did not master. She was as comfortable helping the boys catch snakes and spiders as she was in later life making a future daughter-in-law's wedding dress. She was the model wife and supportive mother to her two sons, Ben and Price. Corinne was deeply devoted to her family. She was an incredible seamstress who made not only most of her own clothes but her boys' as well, she was a great cook, a gracious hostess, a very talented interior decorator, dedicated den mother, and PTA volunteer. Her love and talent for gardening was an ongoing passion and her yard was always beautiful and well tended. Words that come to mind when thinking about Corinne are elegant, gracious, supportive, generous and humble. She never outgrew her penchant for penny pinching, but she never sacrificed her famous sense of style and class. When she and Burl went out, not only did she look good, but because she had dressed him, so did Burl. Her life was filled with many other activities; she enjoyed bridge, the Junior Woman's Club, the All Church Home Auxiliary and Board, and was an active member of University Christian Church for over 65 years. Later in life she and Burl enjoyed getting away to homes at Possum Kingdom Lake and Crested Butte, Colo. Both of those places have remained important to the Hulsey extended family to this day. Not surprisingly, she loved and excelled in her role as grandmother and great-grandmother, and nothing made her happier than being with her five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family is especially grateful to Ida Torry, Corinne's caregiver over the last several years, who treated Corinne like one of her family and in return is considered like one of theirs. Survivors: In addition to her sons, Ben Hulsey and his wife, Mary Gwen, of Houston and Price Hulsey and his wife, Judy, of Fort Worth, Corinne is survived by her grandchildren, Laura Hulsey Kelsey and her husband, William, of Houston, Amanda Hulsey of New York City, Joel Hulsey and his fiancee, Jennifer Ebbinghouse, of Fort Worth, Meredith Hulsey Garcia and her husband, Alan, of Fort Worth and Megan Hulsey Clifton and her husband, Rye, of Austin; and her great-grandchildren, Wilson and Carter Kelsey, Megan, Emily and Sam Garcia, Towns Clifton and Jack Hulsey.
