Charles Merrill Wigstone died peacefully Wednesday evening, Oct. 15, 2013, early in his 90th year. Service: 10 a.m. Saturday at Shepherd of Life Lutheran Church, 715 E. Lamar Blvd., Arlington, the Rev. John Foster, pastor of the church, officiating. Following committal prayers, he will be laid to rest in Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: Family and friends will gather at the church beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday. Memorials: Consideration of contributions to Shepherd of Life Lutheran Church or to a charity of one's choice, in his memory, is suggested. Born in a farmhouse near Stanton, Iowa, on Sept. 20, 1923, Charles was the son of Nathan and Ethel Hultquist Wigstone. He graduated from Red Oak, Iowa, High School in 1941 before attending Red Oak Junior College and Harvard University. In 1948, after serving as a sergeant during World War II in the 288th Engineering Combat Battalion in Europe, he received a degree in civil engineering from Iowa State University. Charles was employed by several petroleum companies and retired from ARCO Pipeline Co. He was a registered professional engineer and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. On July 21, 1951, Charles married Marjorie Weatherbee at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Worth. He was a lifelong Lutheran and currently was a member of Shepherd of Life in Arlington. His memberships also included the Arlington Senior Men's Golf Association and American Contract Bridge League. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Christopher Wigstone; and sister, Marjorie Wigstone Buchholtz. Survivors: In addition to his wife of 62 years, Marjorie, Charles is survived by his children, Jay and Carla Wigstone, Gary and Lynn Wigstone and Diane Wigstone; grandchildren, Richard and Julie and David and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Orion, Jackson and Piper; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and their families.
