FORT WORTH -- Charles Richard Pannill Jr., a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday evening, Sept. 10, 2013, during his 88th year. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday in the W. Ray Watson Chapel at University Baptist Church, 2720 Wabash Ave., with the Rev. Dr. Mark Woods officiating. Following a committal service at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Billie, in the Mausoleum at Greenwood Memorial Park. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to the Texas A&M Foundation, 401 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas 77480, designated for the Charles Pannill Memorial Scholarship. Known to most as "Charlie," he was born June 11, 1925, in Mabank, the son of banker Charles Richard Pannill Sr. and schoolteacher Julia Irvine Pannill. A graduate of Texas A&M with a degree in geology, he put his schooling on hold to serve in the Navy during World War II becoming commander of his ship. After returning to A&M and graduating, he went to work for the Western Company, 39 years later retiring as executive vice president of sales. Charlie knew no stranger and enjoyed a glass of wine and a good meal with his many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Billie Major Pannill. Together Billie and Charlie had a rich and beautiful life, traveling the world and making friends everywhere they went. Survivors: In addition to his daughter, Nancy Hill, Charlie is survived by his grandchildren, Jacquelyn Connolly and her husband, Devin, Katie Hill and Lana Hill; great-granddaughter, Aurelia; nephew, Bob Parker; and many wonderful friends.
