FORT WORTH -- Beverly Idoma Hammack Smith Fort Worth, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, November 26, 2016. Mrs. Smith was 100. Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, in the Elizabeth Cramer Chapel at Arborlawn United Methodist Church in Fort Worth with the Rev. Ben Disney officiating. She will be laid to rest Wednesday afternoon next to her husband, Norman, in Smith Cemetery at School Creek in Lampasas County. Born in Coryell County on Oct. 23, 1916, Beverly was the daughter of Roy and Iva Tapp Hammack. She graduated from Sellers School of Beauty Culture in Fort Worth before marrying Norman A. Smith of Lampasas County, on January 29, 1938. They lived and worked together on his father's ranch, then moved to Lampasas and later to San Antonio. Beverly joined Norman in Panama after he volunteered for service at Panama Air Depot where she worked in the clerical offices. They returned to San Antonio, then moved to Fort Bliss in El Paso when Norman joined the U.S. Army. While in El Paso, Beverly worked as a civilian, primarily driving a military ambulance to transport service members returning from World War II. After the war they returned to Lampasas where Beverly devoted herself to homemaking and raising their children. Upon Norman's retiring, they moved to Woodway to be near family. Beverly enjoyed her grandchildren, friends, and her church, First Baptist Woodway. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and infant son, Joe Taylor Smith. Survivors: In addition to her daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Ed Paddock of Pinehurst, North Carolina, and Bette and Lee West of Fort Worth, Beverly is survived by her grandchildren, Katherine and Lyle Lackey of Jayton, Julie and Rusty Grayson of Ennis, and Kelly Chris Stevens of Marblehead, Massachusetts; great-granddaughters, Kate, Mia, and Allie Grayson, Elizabeth, MaryLyle, and Violet Lackey, Georgia and Piper Stevens; step-grandchildren, Vanessa and Chad Berg of Metairie, Louisiana; step-great-grandson Michael Berg To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Mrs. BEVERLY IDOMA HAMMACK SMITH please visit our Sympathy Store.
